Sinks can be ugly, sinks can be pretty, sinks can be handy and sinks can be totally unpractical.
The worst are obviously ugly and unpractical. My enemies are the pretty and unpractical ones though. So how can we design a pretty but mostly handy sink?
First of all, when does a sink do it's job? It needs to contain the water coming from the tap while protecting its environment and making acces to the water easy. Depending on its type it also needs to be able to hold things to be washed. Another important factor is easy upkeep, it needs to be able to be cleaned easily or ideally not get dirty at all. Lastly, it needs to be economically producable.
The most common failure is if the sink splashes water to the environment when letting water run, when washing hands or other items or when manipulating the tap.
Now comes my (not so great) idea: why not numerically optimize the surface so it optimizes the mentionned goals. It probably does not make any sense since there are many other constraints that cannot be easily expressed as mathematical formulas.
